SJS 3rd Anniversary Giveaway Prize Presentation

Once Again Thank You Everyone for the kind support to Shutter Journey (Singapore) Photography Group!

_MG_7543

The response to our 3rd Anniversary were overwhelming! It delights us to know that SJS had served its purpose well for
the last 3 years and we endeavour to continue to serve the photography circle with more exciting events!

We had a very simple prize presentation at Vivo City on the 10th of March 2013 at Vivo City.
In between laughters and well wishes, it had been heartwarming to both of us.

Here’s what you missed that day. (ALL Photos by Wong Renhao & Anson Kwok)

_MG_7547 _MG_7548 _MG_7550 _MG_7551 _MG_7552 _MG_7554 _MG_7555 _MG_7556 _MG_7557 _MG_7558 _MG_7559 _MG_7560 _MG_7561 _MG_7562  _MG_7569 _MG_7572 _MG_7573 _MG_7574

And for our longest serving Group Moderator Wong Renhao who had also attended the most events and
helped out in almost every assignments, done commercial work & Wedding shoots with us, we had a little
surprise for him.

“Thank You Renhao for being there for us, every time. Really appreciate everything that you had done for us
for the last 3 years. “

_MG_7563

On that note, we would like thank everyone again for supporting us in a way or another.
We (really) wouldn’t have walked this far without all of you.

And SPECIAL THANKS to our corporate sponsors Cathay Photo Store Pte Ltd and Audio & Photo Distributor (F.E.) Pte Ltd (APD)
for sponsoring the giveaway prizes!

Sincerely, Thank you ALL!

Allan LEE & Ling Tan

3 Years is a Long Time – SJS Celebrates 3rd Year in Service.

Advocators of Carefree Photography Celebrates 3 years of photography.

417626_341492249224657_1876496331_n

How time flies. Shutter Journey (Singapore) Photography Group or “SJS” is 3 years old today. Formed purely for the sake of having an independent photography group for community learning and sharing of knowledge and the common love of photography, the group had came a long way since 1st March 2010.

150087_162233333817217_3410840_n406087_514138375293376_731488608_n

Bringing people together from all walks of life and all levels of photography from beginners to professionals, the group was working towards creating a culture dubbed by the Founders as “Carefree Photography” which was (and still is) well received by the members. There is certainly no hierarchy in photography, everyone is the same. It’s not the brand that anyone is using, only our style made us different from each other.

555633_438076432899571_1920241827_n150220_160257484014802_5389653_n

Events formed the main element of SJS. From weekly photo-shoots, to overseas trips, to commercial assignments, to having our every own photography exhibition without corporate assistance, to organizing photography talks, charity shoots, grassroots events, arts & performing arts, photography contests, seminars & courses, we have done it all. And this was made possible because it is also the very same people who attend the events that helped to make it happened from planning stages to actual execution. Trust us, it is not as easy as it seems. And not to forget, the hardworking moderators who have been an excellent help to us. Till date, SJS had organized over 250 photography-related events in 3 years with everyone’s help!

184645_186950181345532_337668_n388276_309842445722971_272825316_n

Running an independent group is never easy. We knew this from the start, people will come, people will go, and keeping everyone together is definitely not easy. For those who had left SJS, we hoped that we had done our part in their photography journey while wishing them all their best and hope they continue their learning journey elsewhere. As for those that are still active today, we hope to be able to continue meeting their learning needs, to enrich their photography journeys and to assist them in every possible way so that together, we can continue to improve ourselves together – as a group, as a community.

Planning for events is another headache as Singapore is just a little bigger than Sentosa (pardon the pun). We have to constantly invent new photography ideas, reading up newspapers & surfing online sites for events or news, researching on new techniques and even working with other photography groups to organize events together. What goes on behind the scenes is really something that words cannot really describe. But still we went ahead and enjoyed every minute of it. As much as we enjoy putting the event together, we hope the members will also enjoy every event with us.

After all, the group is for everybody, SJS is for everybody.
Thank you for the past support rendered to us and we hope to have your continued support for many years to come.

ONE Thing We Agree On

- ONE and iStockphoto Launch Zooppa Contest to fight global poverty
Zoopa_V03

Imagine if Batman and The Joker joined forces to eliminate extreme global poverty

Singapore – Whether you’re a dog person or cat lover, a soccer or basketball fan, you’re invited to take part in a unique multimedia contest that brings opposites together to change the world. ONE, a 3 million-strong global advocacy organization that fights extreme poverty and preventable disease, and iStockphoto, the web’s favored source for user-generated imagery and multimedia, are partnering with Zooppa to launch a competition today in order to raise awareness of the plight of the world’s poorest citizens.

Hosted on Zooppa.com, a multimedia platform, the “ONE Thing We Agree On” contest will run through February 26, 2013. It is a challenge for creative minds to develop a video or print piece that showcases rivals uniting to fight issues such as poverty, famine and disease. Entrants are encouraged to think outside the box and submit in-your-face, edgy, fun and/or funny briefs. Videos must be short and the message conveyed in three minutes or less (also, they shouldn’t be sad. No one likes sad.)

Entrants will be judged based on adherence to the spirit of the brief, creativity, production value and whether the submission is compelling and engaging. Judges will include: Tom Freston, ONE Chairman of the Board and former CEO of Viacom and MTV Networks; Andrew Saunders, Getty Images Senior Vice President of Creative Imagery and Product Development; and Jeff Davidoff, ONE Chief Marketing Officer. The winner will be announced during the annual SXSW music, film, and interactive conference in Austin, Texas in March 2013.

Twelve winners in total – six video winners and six print winners – will share $20,000 dollars and 35,000 free credits from iStockphoto. Winners will also be featured at ONE’s live events, on its website and social media platforms.

“The global movement dedicated to the fight against extreme poverty has brought together some strange bedfellows over the years,” says ONE Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Davidoff. “At ONE, our supporters come from the left, right and center and include business professionals, students, faith leaders, mom bloggers and everyone in between. This contest is a unique way to show that, when it comes to saving lives and making the world a better place, this is one thing that we can ALL agree on.”

As part of an exclusive sponsorship, iStockphoto will provide the first 500 entrants with free credits to license high-quality, imagery, footage and audio from iStockphoto for use in their “ONE Thing We Agree On” submissions.

“We’re proud to take part in the ‘ONE Thing We Agree On’ campaign because we are committed to elevating creative minds,” said Rebecca Rockafellar, Senior Vice President of e-commerce at Getty Images and General Manager of iStockphoto, “This competition allows the iStockphoto community to dig deep and create something engaging for an incredible cause.”

Facebook Stunt for Sigma Lens Gets A Winner!

It all started out innocently as I wanted to find out how many of my peers uses Sigma lenses and their views on it. This is more of a consolidation exercise for information for this site ( for future uses and numbers can be very important.) As the Editor, I tested it out on my personal Facebook Wall. Here below is a screen shot of what I posted.

And when I saw the “LIKES” and Comments pouring in, I decided to test it further. Well reward systems works well in this country,
and I am ready to go all the way at this point and approach Sigma Marketing (Singapore) Pte Ltd for a lens if the below pulls off.

Then…………… my Faceboook Thread got shared over and over and comments flooded the status.

And what happened next is too easy to predict, somehow Sigma Marketing (Singapore) Pte Ltd
came to know about this little “Stunt” that is happening on my wall and they contacted me and told
me that they are keen to be “involved” in this. I made a little announcement here and this stunt went as
far as Australia, Canada, Malaysia & Indonesia as the hits begins to record visitations from these countries
leading to the article. The Site Traffic boomed to a record high of over 1250 hits in a mere 24 hours.

Today, a rep from Sigma Marketing (Singapore) Pte Ltd decided to select a “best comment” and a winner was selected.

This is like an impossible situation or mission at the start, but it ended up well as this
stunt had generated huge responses from existing Sigma users and even potential Sigma users.
It seems like Sigma has a great following after all. And I am glad to report that, my site had
many articles on Sigma Lenses & Cameras and that also adds up to a big traffic statistics being
generated.

L to R: Dr. Freddy Ng (President – Sigma Marketing (Singapore) Pte Ltd, Miss Tan Kim Peng (Prize Winner) & Mr. Allan Lee (Editor – SJS)

Lastly, I would like to Congratulate the Winner, Miss Tan Kim Peng (pictured above) for this Sigma Stunt by me, the crazy Editor for being
selected as the winner for a Brand New Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM lens Courtesy of Sigma Marketing (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

For those who did not win, fear not, who knows, I might be crazy enough to pull off another stunt in the near future?

Stay tuned to this site, Subscribed, RSS Feeds, etc.

“10,000 LIKES” Stunt on Facebook for Sigma Lenses

The Editor posted a Facebook Status Update today on his personal Facebook Wall.

“Like This if You are using Sigma lenses & cameras, used before, touch before, play before and you like it.”

And the Editor Followed up with this comment;

“Leave a Comment which Sigma lens/ cameras you like & why. If this hits “10,000 Likes”, i ask Sigma Singapore to give away a lens to the best comment. So share this now!”

A quick check on the comments & LIKES for the last 10 hours sees the status attracted over 60 “Likes” as this article is being posted, had over 30 Comments by supposedly Sigma Brand users and the Status were shared by fellow Sigma Fans for a total of 8 times across 14 Facebook Accounts and in 4 interest group’s Group Page.

So will our Editor Allan Lee succeed in pulling off this stunt? And getting Sigma Marketing (Singapore) to pick the best comment and rewards the person with a Sigma Lens as requested by the Editor?

Lend your support now! If you are a Sigma user, “LIKE” the status Update, Comment on which Sigma Product you are using, or used and why you like it. If the Status does hits a 10,000 “LIKES”, you may just get a Sigma Lens – simple as that!

I am particularly encouraged to see that this year the grants have been awarded to young, less-established photojournalists, which shows the industry is still attracting new talent. The grant will greatly benefit them in not only their pursuit of highlighting such complex global concerns, but will also offer global recognition and financial support as they embark on their careers.”

Sullivan continues: “The programme continues to garner incredible interest from the photojournalism community; the judging panel carefully considered 328 applications and proposals, received from 60 countries around the world. This year’s projects deal with a range of compelling and multifaceted issues, from the devastation caused by the Japanese natural disasters to modern day slavery in Brazil.”

The panel of esteemed judges included:

  • Whitney Johnson, Director of Photography, The New Yorker
  • Kira Pollack, Director of Photography, TIME Magazine
  • Jean-Francois Leroy, Director, Visa Pour l’Image
  • Barbara Griffin, Senior Vice President of Image Management, Turner Broadcasting Systems
  • Stephanie Sinclair, Photographer, VII

Let’s Cook Healthy Together – Photo Contest

Cook Snap and Win Prizes of $3,000 worth of vouchers and more!‏

Obesity is on the rise in Singapore, with 40% of Singaporeans overweight or obese, mostly because of unhealthy lifestyle habits. More and more people are overeating and eating out. Majority are also exceeding their daily salt intake.

While most Singaporeans recognise that eating out is not as healthy as home-cooked food, most are not necessarily doing much about it.

Home-cooked food is where the families can have the greatest control over what ultimately gets into their stomach. Cooking at home does not only support healthy eating, it also promotes family bonding.
