11th November 2015, Singapore – Strange as it is, I previously mentioned in my Review article for the Tamron SP 35mm F1.8 Di VC USD that Tamron launched the 45mm together with it and the focal length is so close that most photographers was torn in between which lens to buy and what can 10mm difference do their images. I had previously mentioned too that the 35mm was really meant to be a lens for those who want a standard wide angle walkabout lens with large aperture while the 45mm will be more towards the street photographers.

Image: The New Tamron SP 45mm F1.8 Di VC USD has almost the same angle and line of vision as the human eyes. Very useful for quick framing and shooting.

Specification wise, it is almost identical to the 35mm, however at 45mm, this is the closest to a human’s angle and line of vision – it’s like you get what you see through your eyes – that was why I say most street photographers will love this lens. A 9 blader with rounded aperture blades, this lens promises beautiful bokehs and it starts focusing from as close as 29cm. The lens has 10 elements in 8 groups including 2 molded aspherical glass and 1 LD (low dispersion glass), weights about 540gms and accepts 67mm filter on the front of the lens. The design is identical to the 35mm featuring new barrel design and material and if you never look carefully, you might ended up grabbing the wrong lens (between 35mm & 45mm) because they are almost twins.

Tamron’s latest design cue speaks of simplicity, class and ergonomics that make sense. Handling the lens was an ease and the buttons are all well-positioned and easy to operate. To be honest, Tamron’s new SP series lenses feels like a different class of lenses altogether. Long story cut short – Tamron’s new SP series lenses feels expensive and exudes a class of quality. If you found your way here looking for technical specifications, please look elsewhere – as usual, we are more keen to check out what kind of images can this lens produces. I took the Tamron SP 45 F1.8 Di VC USD out for a walk over the Deepavali Holiday in Singapore to Gardens by the Bay and use it on almost everything that meets my eyes. From people to flowers, from scenes to decorations, from evening to night, and I am excited to report that this lens rocks.

All the photos in this review articles are straightened, slightly cropped and water marks added – no further editing or adjustment was done to the images. And if you wish, you may click on the image to view at 100% view or save the image to view the exif data. Most of the images are shot between F1.8 to F2.8 and pay special attention to the bokehs, the sharpness of the area in focus and I am sure you will love this lens as much as I do.

Image: After cropping from the previous image, I am still able to get this, the New Tamron 45mm is really not bad at all.

IMG_6796
Image: The 45mm produces almost 100% of what my eyes saw, only with more bokehs and details.

Looking at the above images, I am sure you will understand why street photographers will love this lens. The amount of details captured, the sharpness on the focused area, the creamy and smooth bokehs are just some of the things that this Tamron lens had set itself to achieve. Atop of that, the New Tamron SP series is also making a strong statement that Tamron does have excellent Prime (fixed focal length) lenses to offer to the photography world. Reasonably priced and with its excellent image quality, the new Tamron SP 45mm F1.8 will be a hit. (together with the 35mm F1,8 lah.)

Although Tamron Singapore is keeping quiet after I asked them if I can keep the 35mm as my Christmas present, I am going to up my ante and ask if I can also keep the 45mm too.

Special Thanks to:
Tamron Singapore for the lens. (So may I keep both lenses for Christmas? Hahahaha!)

Beautiful photos……how about giving us your lens settings. I have just bought the lens on your recommendations and now I am eager to try it. How about listing setting in photo descriptions? Would be a great help for dummies like me.

    Thanks for the great review.

Hi, u can click on any of the photos. Once in full view, right click and save the photo. Then right click, view summary, select advanced, all the settings is there. We do not post the settings because we are more keen on the final image, not technical settings. 🙂
