11th August 2018, Singapore – Editor AL previously reviewed the new Sigma 70mm F2.8 DG Macro HSM ART with a regular flash – you can read it here. For Part 2, we have invited Serene Ong (again) from Serene Digital Craft to try out the new Sigma 70mm F2.8 DG Macro HSM ART – but this time, mounted with a Sigma EM-140 DG Macro Ring Flash!

Serene: Thank You Editor AL for inviting me to try out the new Sigma 70mm Macro lens! This is the first time that I am doing macro with a dedicated Ring Flash and I was all excited about the review! I am also happy to share about my experience from using this lens + macro flash combo!

Serene: The size + the weight of the new 70mm Macro was lighter than what I was expecting. I was using and holding it for a good 2 hours and I did not broke my arm – it is pretty light and the size is very compact for a lens of this focal range. The lens exterior carries the same design cues with the rest of the Art series lens and it does looks like the lens can take some serious abuse.

Serene: What I like was the super fast focusing and near silent operation. It really helps when I am creeping up some insects and the silent operation won’t startle them. Focus was spot on pretty accurately and easily making this lens very easy and a joy to use!

Serene: And since Editor had the technical part covered in his Part 1 review, I decide to talk less and shoot more – so check out some of my images that I had shot using the NEW Sigma 70mm F2.8 DG Macro HSM ART mounted with a Sigma EM-140 DG Macro Ring Flash below!

Serene: I am pretty amazed by what this lens can produce. No pro set up or whatsoever, just pure luck, some patience and lots of sweat during the hunting process. Once I spotted an insect, I just shoot and its a near-90% “hit rate” with this lens + flash combo!

Serene: In a nutshell, the new NEW Sigma 70mm F2.8 DG Macro HSM ART is a super macro lens that do what it does best – close-ups! The sharpness are incredible and the amount of details captured is just amazing! All the photos in this article are pretty much “as it is” – I only did some cropping and adding water marks – everything else is just original and I am blown away with the results! Well, it’s an ART Series lens from Sigma – you know the rest of the story. Thank you Ourshutterjourney.com & Editor AL for the opportunity to review and try out this lens!
