Trainer Bio
Born in Singapore, Mr Yeo Yeow Kwang has been involved in photographic activity since his school days in the 1970s. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society of United Kingdom in 1988, Galaxy Exhibitor Distinction of the Photography Society of America in 2013 and The Photographer of the Year 2013 by Singapore Ngee Ann Cultural Centre.
Yeo-Kwang’s works includes social documentary, travel and fine-art photography. He has won more than a hundred international photographic awards including the most recently the Best Single Image of The Travel Photographer Of The Year Award 2011 and first place in the Sony World Photographic Awards 2013.
He is a certified photographic instructor and has been involved in a wide array of photographic activities such as photographic education, assigned documentary photographic projects and digital editing. He has also contributed as member of jury of several international photographic competitions.

Event Info:
It has been a really long while since we returned to Marang Trail for night macro. This quiet stretch of nature are host to many breeds of insects predominately beetles, jumpers and spiders. There are quite a fair bit of mantis too from our last visit about a year ago. Come join us for this night shoot and take a break from the daily grind.

SJS-Sigma- Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserves

Event Info:
We last stepped into Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserves was in Jan 2015 – during the time when the new wing had just been completed. A year on, and as expected, the wild and untamed had conditioned themselves to the new wing and we are expecting to catch a glimpse of more animals this round.
We will also be arranging for some Sigma Super-telephoto lenses to be loan out to the attendees to try during this event.

SJS MacroWalk Returns – and once again, we are going back to Hell – to Venus Drive. 2 earlier planned macro shoots at Venus Drive were cancelled due to storm and a haze. So this time, haze or no haze, storm or no storm, we are heading there to shoot insects. Venus Drive needs no introduction for macro enthusiasts as this place is famous for its huge variety of spiders, beetles, snakes and many other species of insects. It’s a macro heaven – and hell.

The most recently updated development on our coastline, the Marina South Pier had almost completed their facelift too. Boasting an wide open view of the open sea, and within close proximity to the new Marina Bay Cruise Centre and the Keppel Container Port, this is one interesting place to shoot. We are going to enjoy some really nice breeze and view here while waiting for a sun set.

SJS is visiting Kusu Island, a southern island about 5.6 km away from Singapore and accessible only via ferry. An island of folklore, Kusu island is also known as “Turtle Island” or “Tortise Island”. You may wish to google this. An island with beautiful beaches, nature and tranquil settings, this promises full of photography opportunities. Oh, do stop by the Chinese temple (Dua Pek Gong) too, many interesting sights awaits including a Marble Tortise Icon.

SJS Pulau Ubin Day Trip

SJS will be returning to Pulau Ubin for a Day Trip again! Experience Kampong life all over again. Starting from the Ferry Bumpboat at Changi Point Ferry Termina, we will be popping over to the island for a quick breakfast at the kopi tiams aroud the jetty area, after that we will shoot around the old kampong houses and explore the jetty area. After lunch, we will cater a mini bus from the jetty to the Chek Jawa to explore the coastlines and the eco-surroundings before returning back to Singapore

SJS Sun Rise & Long Exposure @ ECP

SJS will be attempting another Sun Rise Shoot again. For the sake of beginners and those new to Sun Rise, we will go to Jetty near Parkland Green. Since we are entering July so it is at the turn of the seasons so we are really trying our luck. It’s either a dramatic one or a blank blank overcast sky. As an insurance, after the sunrise, we will attempt Long Exposures around the jetty area so those who wish to try Long Exposure can get to learn too.

Shadows, a theme that we had done many years ago and we are bringing this back for those who are new to us and had tried this. This shoot demands lots of creativity and a lot of physical “work-outs” so please be appropriately dressed (esp ladies) and be prepared to get dirty. SJS Zoo & Picnic

Event Info:
We had done all sorts of themes at the Singapore Zoo in the past (animal portraits, eyes, mono, etc) and it had been a while since we visited the animals. So it’s time to bring out your Super Telephotos and Long lenses and let’s pay the animals a visit. Those new to us, it will be a full day event so please read the instructions carefully.
Those not into animals may consider shooting landscape or macro there as our zoo has one of the best landscaping amongst the zoos in Asia and there is also a huge diversed population of insects at the various themed gardens in the zoo. Sounds like fun? Join us!
*Please note that you have to bring your own lunch boxes, we are not going to the restaurant this round and let’s bring back the “School Excursion” feel where we will just find a nice shady spot and have lunch through our lunch boxes!

ToyArt is back. This round we will be shooting Toy Figurines at Botanic Gardens using the landscaping as a theme for our toy figures. Come create your own storylines with your toys and for a change, you are limited to shooting your OWN toys and no sharing for this time. You are to also create a storyline like a 10-photo-slide-comics complete with captions to tell a story. So plan carefully what story you are going to share and the toy figurines that you are gonna bring for this shoot. This is probably the hardest ToyArt so far.

SJS FoodArt – Food Styling Demo @ Eighteen Chefs

We are craving again for Eighteen Chefs and this time, we are going back – not just to eat, but also to learn how to shoot food using basic equipment. As most of you know by now that our Founder AL is responsible for many restaurants’ food menu items photos and Eighteen Chefs is one of the his clients too. Over at Dhoby Ghaut Branch (The Cathay), AL’s photos grace the dinning walls and prominently greets the diners on a large TV while they queue for a seat.
AL will be demonstrating how to create menu-like photos with some simple tools and basic food styling that you can learn and use!

SJS Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserves Exploration

Event Info:
SJS’s First event for 2015! Thank you for your support for the last 5 years, we will continue to bring you interesting photography events for this year.

To kick the year off, we are visiting Sungei Buloh all the way to the North West of Singapore and back to nature. The wetland reserve are well known for its hosts of wild animals, birds and insects together with its rich mix of floral and fauna. Recently, the new wing had opened and the visitor centre had also been shifted with a mild renovation, apart from the new wing and the relocated car park, everything else is pretty much the same, I meant the wildlife there really. So come join us for a walk.

Limited Series is Back! Limited to using Prime Lens & Shooting in Monochrome ONLY, this is yet another challenging event that many had took up the challenge and walked away with new perspectives and new knowledge of what a prime lens is capable of. Although we recommend the use of 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 30mm, 45mm & 50mm, we also welcome your 14mm, 15mm FE, 16mm FE, 17mm or any fixed super telephoto. You will be limited by what you show up with. SJS Limited Series is Back! Attendees are limited to shoot with a 50mm Lens & direct in-camera Black & White (Monochrome) mode. This time, we are revisiting Haji Lane, only diff, we are treading there at night for the first time. In short, this is a night street photography practice at one of the heritage site in Singapore.

SJS “The Accidental Tourist”.

Event Info:
SJS “The Accidental Tourist” will takes us all for a River Taxi Cruise down Singapore River from Clarke Quay to Boat Quay to Collyer Quay to MBS then back. Capture views that are only possible from the sea. After the river cruise, we are walking by the bank of the river towards Boat Quay and capture the scenes in the light of the evening setting sun and end the shoot near Raffles Place – doing all of the above while pretending to be a tourist.

SJS Special Event – Zumba by the Beach

Another Special SJS Shoot for 2013. Remember the Limited Zumba Shoot 2 months ago?
This time, we are making this event to more people. And we are bringing Zumba outdoor to the beach! Featuring Zumba Instructor Cyndi Chua & her Team, we are going to do something really different! The shoot will be divided into combined shoot (group dancing) and individual clusters (Small group poses).

SJS Chinese Garden Roam.

Event Info:
SJS Returns to Chinese Gardens. Shooters are free to do anything they like! From landscape to long exposure to macro to ToyArt to portraits, just do it. I was told that many migratory birds will be passing by Chinese Gardens at this time of the year too.
Decide on a theme for yourself and do it on a solo or in a little group!
